I’ve been searching for this kind of map for years. I’d forgotten about it after so many frustrating failures. This is a wonderfully guided tour of the local galactic structures and their observed motions. Did you think the galaxies were just sitting still out there? Expanding uniformly, like raisins in bread? Nope!

This is what we’ve been saying for years! Oh, and we’ve got our own experiments to back it up, though we haven’t taken the time to test all the alternative study strategies used in this comparison. If only it were easier to develop targeted, computer-based tests for all needs. The computer could test you until you knew the material. It could present things you need more help learning, and slowly phase out the things you already know, giving you more time to master more material.
This just made my day exciting. It’s apparently coincidental that another huge asteroid is making a flyby tomorrow, since the approach will be from a different angle than was apparent in this encounter. The blaze lit up the sky like the sun, and the shockwave set off car alarms and shattered windows. Very exciting!
I watched Fight Club again recently, and I realized that the guy who creates Fight Club in the movie is not Tyler Durden – it’s the guy who sees him beating himself up in the parking lot and asks him “Can I be next?” Without this one guy, the whole movie would be about a crazy person just punching himself.
I’ve been listening to this neural sequencer make music for me all day long. It’s never quite the same. I find myself repeatedly hooked in and then frustrated as it generates and then abandons promising developments and progressions.

Last night was awful. I dreamed I was called back into the Navy. Our ship was being sent back to the Persian Gulf, manned by all the guys who served there with me 25 years ago. All the old nightmares were reawakened. I was written up for not wearing my ID card, and was then issued an ID card. Then I was cited for having the wrong ID card, and was issued 2 ID cards, but the “valid” one had someone else’s name on it, and the one with my name had random incorrect information. Then I found out we were being sent out so that the Navy could test one of it’s nuclear torpedoes on our ship, and then they could blame Iran for the attack and we’d have ourselves our next excuse to go to war.
I woke up several times from this dream (I think) only to go back to sleep and slip right back into it. When morning came, I felt deeply awful. I’m still trying to feel better, but the despair lingers.
